Are we Mshihoye/Mshikhaye or Christians?

It is a known fact that it was in Antioch that the followers of Jesus were first called Christians, and that took place after the reserrection of Jesus.

...this is a known fact in church manuscripts which, much as Aprim`s book, couldn`t get published anywhere without divine intervention...it is not history at all..it isn`t even true. People who believe in dead people flying to heaven are not to be trusted with setting down unadorned facts.

However we Assyrians had adopted Christianity long before St. Peter's trip to Antioch. It was during the lifetime of Jesus when the Assyrian King Abgar Ukomo V corresponded with him and sent his messenger Hanannia to Jerusalem, where he met Jesus and invited him to the Assyrian Kingdom of Osroene, to live there to avoid persecution.

Upon Hanania's return the King was healed and adopted the teaching of Jesus, that was around the year 31 A.D. and prior to St. Peter's trip to Antioch. The followers of Jesus back then were known as Mshihoye and not Christione (Christians).

..this is pure bunk meant to discredit Ashur...as a way of making it inevitable that the Assyrians, who`d lost faith in a "weak and impotant god"...found a "better deal" with a Jew...because they got GOODIES...carried down through history this sort of "moral" led them to go looking to other sects for even MORE goodies...and so you have them today, scattered among a host of hosts, disliking and distrusting each other while each pleads with you to join HIM...something they couldn`t do back THEN when they WERE all of one religion, so to speak. Indeed, that is all Christianity is at heart..a way to get goodies.

..there is no tradition for a Messiah, or a need of one, in all of Assyrian history...that is a pure Jewish invention...it defies logic and history too to say the people who, among very few others, managed to create a paradise on earth...who managed well enough to maintain themselves, EVER went crying and wailing and waiting on someone to show up and lead them by magic....Assyrians made their own.

...To say that Assyrians were right and justified and HOLY for seeing the "truth" of Jesus and dumping Ashur in a second...but, that they must cling to Jesus NO MATTER WHAT and in spite of all the harm Christianity has brought them, far WORSE than anything Abgar was suffering...is as much of an insult as could ever be leveled against us.

...What this myth tries to do is point out that Ashur could do nothing for Abgar..as he could do "nothing" any longer for Assyrians...and so, "naturally" they shopped around for whomever COULD do something for them. And that turned out to be a Jew god. The story is an insult to our Heritage...but that`s nothing new...Christians have ALWAYS insulted Assyrians.

Christos is a Greek word, it evolved in Antioch because it was a Greek city, it's inhabitants were mainly Greeks and they spoke the Greek language, that is how the name Christian was created.

..no it wasn`t. The Romans knew them as Christoi well before. There is reference to them as such in the letters of Pliny the Younger to the emperor Hadrian. Besides which...Jews lived all over the place back then...and the "Christians" you refer to were nothing more than the first followers of Jesus, who were of course all Jews and had to be for the first 100 years after Christ was murdered...after Jerusalem was cleared by the Romans in 70 AD, Christians as well as Jews went in even greater numbers to cities where their brethren already were...and you are all descendants of these first Jewish converts to Christianity...and we all know how Christians hate Jews...so you added "Assyrian" to your religion to try to make a person of yourself.

We Assyrians call ourselves Mshihoye/Mshikhaye not Christione/Christiane, in our language Mshihoye means the "Annoited Ones", in other words the "Chosen Ones", and I don't know if that the Greek word Christian has the same meaning or not.

...so, go be the Chosen Ones..along with the Hebrews you all came from.

If Christian means annointed (i.e. the translation of Mshihoyo) then both words mean the same thing, however why should we use a Greek word when we already have an Assyrian word.

...it is the same language spoken then by the Hebrews...big deal. Why should you speak English when you already have a language? Why should you use a dictionary when you have one of your own?

If Mshihoyo does not mean Christian (literarily speaking), (i.e. Christian does not mean annointed) then we are Mshihoye and not Christians.

...doesn`t matter to me...just get your filthy hands off my Heritage!
