Shlama Ashur,

We need to step back a little and look at the grand strategy.

By the end of the 19th century, the Ottoman Empire was in decline and the Middle East had become a scene of growing rivalry among the world's colonial powers. A resource that transcended all others, oil, provided the fuel for the expansion of European and then U.S. imperialism in the region. And oil made the Middle East what the U.S. State Department later called, and still considers, “the greatest strategic prize in history.”

Israel is a client state of the corporate hijacked US superpower and relies on most of its funding coming from the US, in the form of arms shipments.
They use Israel as a military base from which they can control the entire Middle East and subsequently the world's strategic oil reserves and hence the economies of Europe and Asia.

There have been numerous UN resolutions calling for Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories that have been vetoed by the US and the pages of history. There have been just as many condemning the illegal Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.

All of these were of course conveniently ignored by the media which instead focuses on the UN resolutions calling for the disarmament of Hezbollah on the border.

What we saw in this conflict was the blurring of the line between legitimate self-defense and terrorism. According to the UN the targeting of innocent civilians, aka 'collective punishment' in bombing raids is illegal.

The invasion of the sovereign nation of Lebanon is illegal.

The bombing of civilian infrastructure is illegal.

The US's proxy state in the Middle East should be condemned by the entire world and its leader, Ohlmert along with Bush of course should be hanged if we were to adhere to the same standards that applied during the Nuremburg trials proceeding WW2.

But their "interests" ahem Ken Joseph, will continue to justify the killing of innocent Christian civilians in Lebanon and blame them for it.
The same has happened in Iraq. All of our "patriots" swore blue murder that Saddam was killing our people that he was trying to Arabise us. Now 3 years after the invasion and occupation of Iraq and its oil the results speak for themselves.

We have approximately 2,000 Assyrians who have died along with up to 250,000 (i.e. one third of our population) Assyrian refugees who have fled as a result of the US invasion and occupation. Not since WW1 and the leaving of our ancestral homelands, in Hakkari, have there been such a large displacement of our people.

Meanwhile we keep whining about "Muslim-this" and "Islam-that" easily distracted by the US religious and sectarian polices off divide and conquer.
I wish you safety in Lebanon and pray that US/Israeli aggression and lawlessness stops soon.

Tawdie saggi,
Tiglath

The bombarded regions are Fatqa in Keserwan, Sannin, Turbyl.

The tagets were the atenas of the Christian TV station (only religious programs) and communication stations.

Well put,

I was recently with a moslem staff member of an Embassy. He told me with a strange look that he did not understand why the Assyrian on his staff was more `moslem` than the moslems themselves.

One of the difficulties of the Assyrians and other Christians in moslem countries is that as all minorities they want to be accepted so much that they identify with their enemies and not their friends.

the israeli's yes are gettin sloppy and thats intental to get the lebanese government specifically the christian faction to get their heads out of their butts as they had them when they allowed hazbollah into governmrnt without laying down their weapons. the lebanese christian faction has keen opporttunity to rid itself of the plo in 82 with the aid of the israeli's via sharon, but the president jameyal quoting stated " we cannot war against the arabs, the arabs are our brothers" and recently seen on al jazera t.v., the president of lebanon had staged a meeting with hazbollah officials telling them we shall all fight till the end.....the lebanese christan faction have bought this on to themselves......i still have family in ashrafieh and if harm comes to them i blame lebanon specifically the maronite lead government for such attrocities.......the lebanese lack the inner courage as stated by their greatest writer gibran......and during the first civil war my father, oldest and 2nd oldest brother risked their lives to fight for lebanon.....assyrians were about 5k in lebanon then but hesitated not for a moment in lebanons civil war of the 70's why? in order to fight for freedom one must lay down their life for it through courage. the israeli's are gonna show lebanons hand and in courage and will head further north then u think my friend. miss rice is going to israel next monday giving the israelis enough time for bombing to stop which will be about sunday and by monday u will see how far their foot theatre moves.....i dont want not only innocent christans i.e., assyrians, armeanians and even maronite not to perish, but even innocent muslims either.

BEIRUT, Lebanon -

Israel called up reserve troops Friday and warned civilians to flee Hezbollah-controlled southern Lebanon, as it prepared for a likely ground invasion to set up a deep buffer zone.......israel wants war with hezbollah, but hezbollah hides behind women and children because they lack the efficient war theatre necessary for this type of fight. they will engage israel in "gurelia warefare" working in small forces of 5-10 to engage israel in suicide bombing/sniper and small arms confrentations to disengage the israeli frontal scouts.........this is a similiar problem that the u.s. troops are facing in iraq.....so to call israel "cowards" is inacurate......they are attempting to be as tacticle as possible with minimal loss.......I am assyrian from lebanon and a few of my sibilings have just made it out today.......i didn't care for this precission bombing because these missiles are being fired off from civilian areas where israel fires back with inacuracy as well........all we can do is pray for now.....something we lose sight of sometimes...the guy upstairs is much more powerful.....so we should pray to him in this crises.

Dear Rev Ken

Israel has the right to deffend itself, but not this way. They exactely where are the centers of Hizbollah but they are cowards, they can't face Hizbollah on the ground and that's why they are killing CIVILIANS from the air.

We are not against "disarming" Hizbollah, but against "killing the civilians"

Dear Ashur,

You are in Beirut. Can you help us understand how Hezbollah is able to run a `country within a country` and why it is not a problem for this to be happening affecting Lebanese sovereignity?

It is easy to blame Israel, but what should Israel do with Hezzbolah on one side and Hamas on the other side?

Help us understand.

It seems that getting Hezzbolah out of Southern Lebanon is critical for Lebanon to succeed?
