I usually hate weddings, but I was so inspired last night that I woke up this morning and wanted to write something, to say something about something so esoteric, no one has ever been able to dissect, describe, and conquer.

I went to an Assyrian wedding last night, one of the best I have been to. It wasn't just the superb decorations, or the incredible non-stop food and drinks that were being served all night long, or the two marvelous bands that played till the cows came home! It was the joy and the cohesiveness that I witnessed unraveling right before my eyes, between two otherwise known Assyrian enemies: The Assyrians of Iraq and the Assyrians of Iran.

The groom, (originally from Iran) and his bride, (originally from Iraq) loved each other since they were kids in high school. For seven long years, they tried to get together, but the groom's mother was adamant about NOT letting her eldest son marry an Assyrian girl from Iraq!

Not only did love finally win, and they were married yesterday, but the people from both sides came together to make it extra special for these two star-crossed lovers, and the affair turned into one of the most incredible scenes I have witnessed. Love was unraveling and pouring out from both sides.

The groom's mother? She did not come to the wedding because she did NOT want to witness the joy in her son's eyes, nor did she want to witness two ancient enemies conquered by love!
