...Maggie, Farid, Emil (of course), and Ado...how can we forget you... and Kris's story about Sushi. Mmmm. Sushi.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciated reading all of your stories. They resonate within me. They remind me of stories that my grandfather told us, about life in Iraq, ...or just about life's humor.

Unfortunately, I only have a few relatives from the "old country", most of them having moved here when they were very little. My grandmother was even born here, which is pretty rare in our community.

Having been born in the US, at that time, it must have been quite difficult to be an outsider. There was no pro-diversity movement then... no bi-lingual education in schools, no ESL. I'm talking about the 30s and 40s... she told me about how when she was young, they didn't have the exotic ingredients and spices that we have these days at any middle eastern market. Imagine that... that I, a second-and-a-half generation American whose father and grandmother were born here, could more easily go to the store and pick up syrian bread, kamardine, baharat, lemondossey, torshi, and any other number of middle-eastern delights easier than my grandmother whose parents were from the old country? Isn't that strange?

So, anyway, what I am trying to convey is that I really appreciate that you folks are taking the time to share your stories, or your family histories. It is fascinating, interesting, and fun/ny. I look forward to more...
