...I didn`t notice right away, but something is rotten in Denmark..okay, Finland. I don`t usualy bother with book reviews that are blurbs meant to be printed on book jackets...they are way too breathless and seem intent on getting you to believe you should buy the book...and agree with the reviewer.

Parpola's review is one of the strangest I`ve ever seen...perpend:

Dr. Simo Parpola short review of the book

This is a very important and much needed book that should have been written long ago.

...this is pure jacket cover blurb...they ALL say this about a book in review...

The author traces the history of the Assyrians from the fall of their Empire to the present day
and convincingly demonstrates the unbroken continuity of Assyrian identity through the millennia
in the middle of endless persecutions.

...this is where Parpola drifts. It suits Christians to believe that those ancient Assyrians converted to Christianity. All Aprim has done is prove to himself that he is a descendant of the ancient Assyrians..and he`s done it by relying on Christian manuscripts..if Parpola can`t smell this rat...what can I do about it?

This dispassionate yet captivating book corrects many
misconceptions about the Assyrians, both ancient and modern. It is a must for every modern
Assyrian and Assyriologist, and of considerable interest to the general public
as well.

...here`s where this thing turns rancid. Up to this point Parpola has gone on as if Aprim`s is a MUST READ, as they say. He`s called it very important...he says it must be read by every Assyrian, every Assyriologist AND the general public...why he didn`t just come out and say THIS BOOK MUST BE READ BY EVERYONE ON THE PLANET...I don`t know. Maybe he doesn`t like to exagerate.

...after having offered up this fulsome praise...and having told us all how captivating it is and how we should all read it...he next says this:

I personally started reading it from Chapter 10, "The so-called Assyrian cruelty," and
couldn’t stop reading.

...wait a minute. How many "captivating" and "must read" books would a REVIEWER tell you HE started reading in the MIDDLE??? Is THAT how Parpola conducts his "importabnt reading"?

...I`ve never seen or heard of such a review. Who in his right mind extols a book and then tells you he read HALF of it? AND....the LAST half at that??? Who wades into an "important" book everyone MUST READ, in the middle...skipping the first nine chapters, and thinks NOTHING OF IT?

...additionally...if you know that Parpola is one of the champions who questioned the myth about "Assyrian Savagery"...you realize that he was only interested in Aprim`s book at those points where Aprim lifted from HIM. Parpola has done what we all know Aprim does when he reads "important books". Parpola looked in the index..or table of contents...found himself...and skipped ahead to read what he already KNEW was pleasing in his own eyes. The FIRST half of the book? Who cares?...not Parpola.

...what kind of fools does Parpola think we are that he could be THAT sloppy...that he could be THAT lacking in professionalism, that we wouldn`t notice this obvious NON-review?...that he wouldn´t even bother to cover his tracks a LITTLE? What would it have cost him...since he`s hardly being objective, to have left out the part about only reading half this "great" book? It`s as if he`s sending us an insult...like we`ll never understand that NO serious review of a SERIOUS book can be delivered by someone who ADMITS to reading half a book!!! That he had no doubts or fear in doing this so blatantly tells you what he REALLY thinks of us Darkies.

I`ll bet HIS white ass he NEVER would have dared such a travesty of a "review" of a Jewish book..or one about the history of Finland. Imagine a Finnish Historian telling readers that he read HALF of an "excellent and captivating" book on the hisotry of Finland, and went on to praise it highly? Never happen...but Darkies..."let them be pleased I noticed their little effort at all". THAT`S what Parpola is really saying.

And Aprim..and of course Shushan, WOULD take pride in that!
