"He is indeed erratic...but that too is an act. It's all an act."

--------Or he may have grown less stable since you knew him. He can bully and manipulate, yell and threaten, he has cold unfeeling eyes. Someone (a Mexican) once suspected he took drugs or drank too much, by way of explaining his instability. Generally I'd say he's capable of anything because he has to imagine himself superior to everyone. You hit it right before when you called them insecure - sociopaths are.

"So, they are in Ajijic..wherever they went there'd have to be gringos...the ones disenchanted with the US government would be their best marks."

-------You know them well! Exactly right.

"..this guy Bartini seems to still be under their spell..."

--------Funny thing is Bartini's politics are totally opposite their anti-government posturing which reels in some of the local gringos - Neteri said he voted for Bush. Ironic that he's their biggest defender now. As to Bartini's wife, nice woman, but Neteri (Celina) could never make enough fun of her - dumb, ditzy, won't listen, can't ride etc. Couldn't stand to be around her, treated her like a dumb poodle. Now best pals. Used to talk against every woman and thought every guy was out to lay her.

"it isn't "their" magic that hoodwinks people...they know how to burrow into YOUR fantasies..."

---------And weaknesses, and all the secrets in your heart. And they are good at it, just not at sustaining it. And right again! Their lies got too grandiose not to be checked out. And they kept lists of marks like in SMA.

---------Speaking of grandiose, check out their web site, especially "La Jornada". Such invention. Who is the British friend who had a Porsche? He's the one who concocted this surreal nonsense. http://www.caballorojo.com/en/jornada.php

"Celina and Lew or Sam or Chance...know damn well they're fooling people...and that can't feel good...I mean it feels good to know you got away with it..."

---------That's the sociopath - it feels good, validates them, pushes away the insecurity. Can't decide if his shill Neteri is also a sociopath or if he manipulates her completely like a puppet; maybe she's just very grateful for being rescued from table dancing? One of their tricks was "divide and conquer" - especially slandering men (peeping Toms, trying to catch her or her daughters naked, trying to chase Annie with rape in mind -you've heard this before) to alienate friends and couples and take business away from Mexicans. For her trouble, she's created a very weird teenager who's never set foot in a school.

---------They may have crapped all around their campfire, but they got used to the smell. Don't think they noticed it anymore.

---------Nobody seems to know much about her past. She may be from NM but she also had family in OK, where he's from.

..and by the way, they don't really work either...

---------Not only was the shoeing awful, but their pretence at training.....

"..in the end, Chance would fail every time because he'd eventually alienate all but the dumbest...and they weren't usually the ones who had much to offer him, besides dumb loyalty."

----------But sometimes they have networks too; they become middlemen, part of the foodchain. Those who believe most in them are the middlemen because they didn't (yet) lose much money. One fool who did get a taste has gone back to grovel and will get soaked for real one day.

---------The Rapid City Journal may think opinion here is "divided" but most of the Mexicans don't like them at all.

---------------As long as she remains in Mexico..... it's not over.-------------------
