I still don't understand why Ninos, or anyone, would say what he said.
Ninos, do you think your American government ( you ARE a citizen, right? Of some Western/European country, and not of Iran/Iraq/Syria/whatever.) is going to pay for his/my/your rent, food, hospital bills, prescriptions, eye glasses, bus/train fare?
A classical violinist spends his/her entire life practicing. They don't sit around and watch tv after school. They depend on teaching, performing. You must know this.
You wouldn't ask a dentist to come to the convention and clean teeth for free!
Or... maybe you would...
We have to compensate our great talents monetarily. But more importantly we need to empower them and each other, but wishing shame on anyone is certainly not a good start.
We continue to push "culture" away, art, the things that help establish a sense of balance to the Assyrian foundation, to what being Assyrian could really mean.
We clutch to Christianity but know nothing about embracing what faith really means- a faith in people, in all people, in each other- as a dynamic people, not just Christians in the diaspora. Floundering.
We send our children, our youth into the world and expect them to return to us with gifts, with possessions, rewarding them only when they have met our avarice.
I'm going to stop here, because we all know this, and what's the point?
