An Assyrian classical violinist friend of mine was "asked" to play at the recent convention here in Chicago. They expected him to play for free, as if his time and his talents weren't worthy of some kind of fee. Meanwhile, Linda George and other "big names" are payed thousands, right?
He stood his ground and declined.
