I agree with you that the identity has cracked and no amount of trying to fix it will it come together.... but for a charismatic leader or a group of them that can inspire some sort of purpose within these people. I think it is possible, but it isn't straightforward and it may well be the one whose mother they are calling whore that might be the one.

...my point was exactly that...that a people have to have it in them to be INSPIRED...and we don't. I'm not making it up...it's merely an observation based on events...on evidence.

For instance, you'd THINK that the chance to have an Assyrian monument installed in a city like Chicago would be a rallying point...instead one man stops it and over 80,000 Assyrians in that city stir not a finger....I can't imagine any other group behaving in such a way...

...also, depending on the charisma of leaders means that when they are lacking...so too is any coherence in the group.

...I agree...but, I'm afraid that if you remove the religious component there IS no substance to our claims of an Assyrian ethnicity....How would it be if someone today claimed to be a Gaul? Wouldn't we laugh at them? All we've done is dub every Christian ritual of ours "Assyrian".

...even the language...what do we tell the world? Do we say Jesus spoke the language of Ashur...or, rather, do we say WE speak the language of Jesus?

...no, I'm not. It proved too difficult to get any kind of answer from the organizers...and I didn't feel the need to have the police called out again. They dug their graves long before I came on the scene...it happned right about the time of the influx of Christians from Iraq, Syria and Turkey...all of a sudden there were glowering, angry, frustrated and bitter "nationalists" at the conventions having their fights over Jesus...didn't take long for the more subdued people to fall off....
