I have always been confronted by many close family and friends about how great of a man my grandpa was. He seemed to encompass all the valiancy and integrity a person should have. I am told of the many great deeds he did for the less fortunate while living in his own misfortune on the mountains of Hakkari. He lived "simply" throughout his life as a carpenter and as farmer. I wasn't very surprised to hear that he helped other Assyrians but I was moved to hear how many Muslims, Kurds and Turks he helped in the time of need. He did it unconditionally. Christian or not..they were human.

I feel that my grandpa was apart of a generation that valued integrity and valor. It seems to be visible in their words and their actions. To me that is what GREAT is. Where have those qualities in people gone and how does one attain them? I am in constant awe of their strength and courage. I look around at these apathetic fools with not a shred of decency that that generation had.

I, for one have always preferred the name Assyrian to Chaldean. Starting with the word "ASS" really does seem to fit better.

Farid,

My grandpa and your grandpa were sitting by the NOORAH
Said my grandpa to your grandpa , "MAKDINEH TEEZOOKH."

I said, "Hey now," "Hey now," (repeat)
Aiko Aiko all day, jockomo feno na na nay, jockomo feena nay.
