...the nation was shocked to hear that Dick Cheney has accidentally shot his wife. "She moved across the kitchen when I least expected it", said the distraught Vice President. "I was cleaning my gun when what appears now to have been my wife, moved past me in a threatening manner". Mrs Cheney was shot in the right side, lower left leg and abdomen by Mr Cheney.

...during police questioning it was learned that Mr Cheney´s dog, "Hal", was also accidentally shot the previous day. Mr. Cheney told police investigators that he had been cleaning his gun when he was startled by a sudden movement in the kitchen. Hal was shot nine times and had to be destroyed. The outlook is better for Mrs Cheney.

President Bush defended his vice president, "Dick Cheney is a great American, under extreme stress from protecting millions of Americans...I wish the liberal press would leave him alone so he can get on with his life."
