...it doesn't have to be that way...but what other conclusion can you draw when you read what almost sound like intelligent people, falling down at the end or in the middle and veering off to a Twilight Zone all their own.

This is from an article in Zinda...

Now, you must identify the obstacles: The sheer number of Kurds in Iraq is a bonus – and protection under the new Iraqi constitution protects Kurdish claims to the (Assyrian) lands…however, the Assyrians still actually live on their ancient territory, and they are claiming the land as their own. An ethnically and religiously distinct group of people who, in truth, predate Kurds in every single square inch of what is being called “Kurdistan”, are still around, have formed political parties, and are voicing their request for independence in areas Kurds want to incorporate into “Kurdistan”.

...this is simply irrelevant...I mean the amount of weight all these thinkers attach to being the "indigenous people". It means nothing...not a thing. There is no promise made anywhere that people who occupied any place first get to keep it. We all know land is kept through force...even the very lands that these children make their pleas from were stolen fron other indigenous people...that's the way it goes. It isn't a valid argument anywhere to say you SHOULD get to keep your house...even after the bank forecloses...you lost it...you couldn't keep up the payments...it's gone.

What is the Kurdish Regional Government to do? After all, if Kurds are claiming this land – can’t the Assyrians just as well?

...Kurds ALWAYS claimed the land...what's "claiming" got to do with it? It wasn't by claiming it that they got it...which is the way the boys see it...their argument goes like this..."Kurds CLAIM land...Kurds GET land...therefore, if WE claim land...we will GET land too". It doesn't work that way...the boys insist on seeing it that way because they think it makes THEIR claim legitimate...makes it possible. But they forget the biggest part..they forget FIGHTING...fighting against all odds...they forget the DOING and focus only on the CLAIMING...that way they feel they don't HAVE to fight...but they're wrong, obviously...had the Kurds only CLAIMED the land they would never have gotten it...but our boys are famous cowards...they aren't going to fight anywhere they might actually get hurt...so they go on and on about how all they have to do is CLAIM the land...like they insist the Kurds ONLY did...and so they sit and wait and wait and beg and beg...and nothing happens. And the conclusion they draw from this is not that their ideas are screwy but that they ALL have to unify and say the SAME stupid thing with ONE voice.

Confucious said, "claim in one hand and spit in the other and see which one fills up faster." That's the boys...all of them. They're claiming and claiming and begging and begging and writing and writing...and at the end of each such cycle they check their hand and it's as empty as it ever was.

Of course they can. After all, every square inch of what Kurds call “Kurdistan”, from millennia ago, was originally Assyria.

...that means nothing..it's only an interesting footnote and an all too common reminder that the world changes...that history moves on...that new people come where older ones were...and that Life is CHANGE.

Every square inch of what was once Gaul is now France....every fraction of what was once Rome is now Italy...Lusitania is now all Portugal....and the land that Aprim sits on while he demands justice for HIS indigenous claims belongs to OTHER indigenous people...and he wouldn't give them ANYTHING...so why should any Kurd?

Unfortunately for Massoud Barzani, Assyrians are still there. Making a fuss. Demanding recognition that they, too, have been for millennia living at the mercy of Arabs, Turks, and Kurds. They are, quite simply, the indigenous people.

..this last is the biggest lie...of so many. It is NOT the Christians of Iraq who are making all these fanciful demands and claims..it is the ones who ran OUT of Iraq and sit safely in Chicago and Turlock who have these grandiose notions...that's why they're so pissed at ZOWAA...because ZOWAA won't make these assinine claims FOR them...and catch hell for it.

And let's not forget to thank all the Christians who prayed for Bush to "liberte" Iraq...let's not forget that Saddam fought tooth and nail to KEEP the Kurds from getting a Kurdistan...and that Bush handed it over to them even BEFORE his troops got there.

...these sorts of thinkers and nationalists, the best among them, ALMOST make sense...but then they too break down and go all to hell in the details and even in the basic concepts...that's why it's so good that we drag them out into the open...because even while they take great satisfaction in the exposure when it seems harmless enough...eventually they'll lay ALL their cards on the table and finally get the uprorious response that's so far lacking in their little, little world.

Turn on a light and the cockaroaches will run.
