Grusha,

You speak of martyrdom as if it was a choice!!! Our Assyrian people have suffered and been martyred not by choice, but as result of their courageous actions.

...Odd. The one thing that makes one a martyr is CHOICE. That's the whole idea...someone gives you the CHOICE to turn on your beliefs...and you refuse, knowing your CHOICE will bring death. If you're just out and out shot in the head for being what you are, or saying what you believe, you are a murder VICTIM...not a martyr

Our recent two Assyrian men were putting up posters to advance our unified slate. They didn't ask or choose to be martyrs, they were made martyrs because of their dedication and actions for our community.

...total confusion reigns in the minds of these people...no wonder they can't even understand themselves.

...had someone held a gun to them and said, "Throw those posters away or we will kill you"...and had the men refused to make that CHOICE but held their ground in full conscious knowledge of the consequences, THEN they would be martyrs. But just to get killed FOR doing something...without being given the CHOICE to recant or back down...doesn't qualify you as a martyr. It's still as much a tragedy...but without the CHOICE, it isn't martyrdom.

The boys are just so desperate to weep over themselves and give each other grand titles that they use Hanna's dictionary...makes it a lot easier that way. They figure "what the hell"...you got killed ANYWAY...why NOT make a "hero" and a "martyr" of you.

This is why we RESPECT martyrs because they were DOING something positive for our community. Something we all can surely learn from!!!
