Dr Hakim Baba...fought alongside Agha Petrous...escaped with his family from Urmi to Iraq...where the Iraqis allowed the refugees safe haven...there were very few doctors among the Assyrian refugees, I think there was one other...the government sent Hakim Baba to Mosul, to the hospital where not only Assyrians were grateful but the Muslims as well...he was a good doctor.

A few years later, with ten children to care for, he opened a private clinic, where he took less chickens and vegetables as fees and began charging money...this naturally made Assyrians angry and then jealous, you know how we resent any one of us getting "ahead"...to get back at him a group of them, probably made up Bejans, Aprims, Golanis grairs and an AIDS committee, went to the Muslim authorities and said they knew for a fact Dr Baba had no medical degree...that he was a charlatan etc. and hurt their feelings by being good at what he did. This was the excuse the also envious Muslims needed to close his clinic and ban him from the hospital...the Assyrians "won" another pyrrhic victory...they cut this overweening Assyrian down to size...to their size for they were dirt poor and would remain so for a thousand years...what they hadn't thought about though was that their Assyrian women...wives, mothers and virginal daughters would from then on have to spread their genitals and undress for Muslim doctors...such is the quality and sense of Assyrians.

My grandfather, at the age of 50, went to Edinburgh University and got his diploma all over again, in record time and in English. His own had been destroyed with the records kept at the Missionary schools back in Urmia. He only lived another year or two after that...but he valiantly went back to treating people...Assyrians too, in the time remaining...he died early of a heart attack...partly broken, I have no doubt.

Some time back a Christian from Canada chided me for being this way...said he had a lot of respect for my father...who went on to head the Health Department in Kuwait...another Assyrian who managed just fine in the Mideast...because he was good at what he did and didn't just drive a taxi and demandses a country be handed over to him. I said my father would heartily approve of the drubbing I hand out to these Christian dogs...posing as their betters...that for as long as I could remember my father would not allow an "Assyrian" into our home...said if you would live a peaceful life, NEVER let one cross your doorstep...the Assyrians who came to Kuwait in those days looking for work made a direct line to our house..and sure enough, they had to stand in the yard when speaking to him...he got them jobs...he didn't mind helping them..but he was NOT going to open his home and life to their envy and petty and vindictive ways...for they will hate no one more than he who confers a benefit on them...because their false pride and knowledge of their inadequacies will make them resent your help..as if by helping you pointed out that they NEEDED it...that these sons of bitches of "Ashurbanipal" needed a hand out...the fact that they DID and that THEY came asking for one, would only embitter them more towards the person who GAVE it them, as if in doing so YOU were conferring their mediocrity on THEM!...go figure...but that's what Christian dogs are like..they bite the hand that tries to pet the bastards.

Jackie Bejan's father was one of those who came to Kuwait seeking my father's help...I think I remember him standing in the yard. Is that MY fault too?
