...here's from Aprim...

"
Building churches and homes MUST NOT be the standard by which a leader should be weight by. But we know that Assyrians in northern Iraq are poor in general and this will have an impact on their lives."

...there you have it. The Assyrians are "poor" and are willing to sign on any dotted line that will "have an impact on their lives"....for the better,,,one would hope.

..it is said that Caesar paved the way for Christ...that the abject helplessness faced by millions of people in the face of the Rolling Roman Empire made them lose all hope of ever escaping its brutality in this life...cue Jesus.

...there well may have been dispirtited and worn down Assyrians who "fell" for the greatest con job ever known...believing that by believing, they would live forever on a cloud.

...but, once you start shopping around...once you go seeking foreign benefits over the spirituality that your fathers and mothers lived by and you were born and raised in...well, it's like turning your back on your family because you found a better one...it just won't leave you clean or wholesome.

...and then, just to add insult to injury....along come several Western Evangelical sons of bitches years later, to Urmia mostly...and they go to converting people who were already Christian, to THEIR brand of Christianity...and they did it largely the same way Aprim is lamenting about today..that is: they appealled to their poverty by spreading around cash sent from the Missionary churches in the West..and that cash bought roofs and tea and coal and petrol and food and books etc.

...once you make an ethnic identity to be based on opportunism....then the day won't be far away when poor and now shell-shocked Christians will accept any benefit whatever that comes from anywhere whatever...they've been doing it for centuries and millenia...as the saying goes..."we've already determined what you are...we're just haggling over your price".
