...there`s something odd to me in the sight of all these Blacks making it in the Republican Party...Powell, Deeza Rice, Uncle Clarence Tom...and then it seems that we`ve had nothing but presidents from the South lately and that no one from the East or anywhere else will ever get elected again...and all those Southern twangs and drawls in committee leadership position...then there was the "Contract With America" that heralded the dawn of the Conservative attack on "Big Government"...then this Katrina thing when Brown complained that the STATE of Lousinia was at fault...was dysfunctional and all because HE fell down at his Federal post...and then if you take the long view you realize that white southerners are STILL pissed about the Civil War, at the intrusion of the rest of the nation via the Federal Government into their "private affairs"...still Racist as ever, the power structure especially...also, that had been a question of State`s Right`s, the Civil Rights Movement never would have happened...the University of Alabama never would have been desegrated...drinking fountains would STILL be off limits to Black Americans...and on and on.

The only reason there WAS a Civil Rights Movement, that succeeded as brilliantly as it did, was because in the end the FEDERAL Govenment could intervene and TRUMP State`s Rights...the White Boys knew damn well that if it had been left to each southern state there never would have been an end to Jim Crow segregation...because while the vast majority of white Honkies in those states supported things as they were, as god intended them to be...the rest of the country did NOT...and Federalism gave the rest of the country the right to change the laws of distant states.

It doesn`t seem too far fetched to think that all this slamming of the Federal Government...trying to reduce its effectiveness, encouraging people to think about the "local level"...to distrust Federalism, to scoff at the notion the Washington has an OBLIGATION to the entire country... and to distrust people from the "Beltway" and, perhaps, more: to actively seek to join the Federal government in ORDER to make it incompetant, corrupt and almost unnecesary...could be a long, convoluted, but then again, the ONLY possible way to get local power back into the hands of the KKK in the southern states...and they are STILL there.

Nothing Tom Delay would like better than to have us all think Federal Government IS corrupt...or corrupting...useless etc. In that regard Brown`s mishandling of everything was a perfect first response..it showed clearly that you "can`t depend on Washington"...so, what would a Conservative tell you is your option? Would he say we can do BETTER and should make the Federal Government MORE capable etc...or would he say you should leave Louisiana, and all states, to take care of things at the local level? That`s what Brown was saying...not that HE or FEMA under him and the Federal Government under Bush were Dysfunctional...that`s what he WANTS...but rather that Louisiana was dysfunctional...which means really that they should not have "looked to Washington" to solve local problems.

Bush has placed ideologues who are known to be incapable, in positions of power at the Federal level in the fervent hope that they fuck up royally...and they do...with regularity. But that`s what Neo-Coms WANT. To them, that`s "better government"...because it means getting the Feds OFF their Southern Cracker backs.
