2 Arrested After Fight At Annual Convention

HARTFORD - — A fight broke out among several people attending the Assyrian American National Federation annual convention at the Marriott Hotel on Columbus Boulevard early Sunday, police said.

When police responded to the scene about 3:15 a.m., they found about 70 people still milling around the lobby. Police charged two men after they allegedly refused to leave the lobby and closed a police officer's arm in a car door.

Ronald Michael, 48, a neurosurgeon from Illinois, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Police said he became threatening to police officers when they asked him and others in the lobby to leave the area.

Nazar Khamo, 58, also from Illinois, was charged with interfering with police and assault on a police officer after he allegedly shut an officer's arm in a car door.

Police said they asked the crowd to go back to their rooms, but for about 15 minutes no one followed the request.

Hotel staff declined to comment, and the chairperson of the convention was unable to be reached.
