"Iraq".....an Illustrated History and Guide. By Giles Munier.

It's a slim volume meant only to give a brief overview...but it has an extensive bibliography.

Under the heading of religion it has this to say...

"Roughly five percent of Iraqis are Christians. Many sects are represented, including Greek Orthodox or Melchites (Christians generall from Syria and Egypt, who remained faithful to Byzantium at the Coumcil of Chalcedon in 1451), Greek Catholic, Armenian, Protestant, as well as Chaldean, Nestorian, and Jacobite sects (sorry...no mention of assyrians, mine). The vast majority of Iraqi Christians ( 80 percent) are Nestorian or Chaldean."

Here's an interesting line...

"The Mongols almost converted to Christianity, but the Pope refused, horrified at the power the Nestorian heresy could thus have acquired.. The Mongol chiefs finally opted for Buddhism or Islam, according to the people they ruled over."

So...the pope refused to bring people to the "goodness of Christ" because the son of a bitch would have lost POWER! So much for the "spiritual" side of Christianity.

Had the wildly successful Mongols become Christian...they might well have wiped out, or forcibly converted the Muslims. Hmmmmmmm.

...one of the things Maggie got wrong...as do the rest of them, is that Chaldeans were invented way before assyrians. No one claiming to be assyrian these days had ancestors, beyond the 1800s, who knew anything about the ancient Assyrians, or his supposed connection to them. People who now claim to be Assyrian had ancestors only a few generations ago, who never heard of Gilgamesh...never heard of anything regarding Assyrians that wasn't in the Jewish bible.

"The Chaldean sect (S-E-C-T...understand?...not "ethnicity", or race...or nation...mine) had its origin in the schism with Nestorians that occurred in 1552, led by John Sulaka. It recognizes the suthority of the Pope, but retains its own rites...."

The author fails to mention that the whole thing came about because of the Pope, again...who sent missionaries to "convert" Christians to Christianity...HIS brand of Christianity that is. Chaldeans were invented by the Pope...by Europeans...by Italians. The name "Chaldean" was a geographical designation for the PLACE where their church was built...it was never meant to indicate an ethnic group...certainly not "descendants" of the ancient Chaldeans.

But, the point is, that assyrians were as made-up as Chaldeans...but they were made up next....during the 1840s or so when Euros claimed the Christians, not the Muslims, living on top of the ancient ruins HAD TO BE direct blah blah blah...they did this because they needed to woo religious minorities, and anyone else they could, over to their side in their battles with Germany and its attempts to gain more influence.

The Brits did it so they could seduce our ancient dummies into actually believing they were DIFFERENT...and SPECIAL....and we fell for it.
