...a funny thing is happening in America...a self-fulfilling prophecy for all time. The country is systematically neglecting its children...and then wondering how to "fight crime" later down the road. I always said Americans should raise pets, not children...they obsess about how their dogs behave but are helpless when it comes to their children.

You're supposed to do more than feed your kids...you're supposed expose them to intelligence, to culture, to values and you're supposed to watch over them carefully as they take their first steps...sitting yourself down in front of your teevee, and plugging them into their computer, which YOU bought for them, will not do it.

Neither will the short-cut of Jesus and bible thumpings and tent-meettings do it for you...those are just formulas, chants like any around a primitive campfire in a cave somewhere.....it takes time, and patience, and care...but it also takes services, and opportunities which only the collective-people-State can provide.

What we have now is the worst of laissez-faire, where children are concerned...we leave people to their own devices...if parents work round the clock and have no time for their children, we say that's the Free-Market at work...and when those children grow up "wrong" the Free Market dictates we hire police and build jails...well hell! If you're going to spend freely only AFTER the kid has grown into a menance, you aren't saving anything by not spending the money earlier, and more wisely, a time when good teachers and time and patience and family values, the real ones, could have been nurtured and used to good benefit...but to stand aside and just wait, ready and willing to pour money into punishment...that's stupid and will never work...how CAN it?
