What's one big difference between the two?

Well, one was conquered by Christians, the other by Muslims.

Mexico was conquered barely 500 years ago.

BetNahrain was conquered 1,400 years ago.

Within a few short years of the Christian conquest not one native religion was left, not one believer, not one religious building and the population was enslaved and worked to death... and today there still aren't any of the folowers of the religions which existed before the Christians came.

1400 years after the Arabs conquered BetNahrain, the Christian religion they found there is alive and well.

It would seem the Muslims were better conquerors as far as respecting the culture they found. Mexico went into rapid decline under Christian rule...whereas the Arabs built what came to be recognized, by the Christian world as well, as the greatest, most civilized and advanced society of the Middle Ages.

It seems if you HAVE to be conquered, it's better to have Muslims do it.
