....a fast-talking opponent of Hitchens was confronted by a young woman asking if he thought she was going to hell because she didn't believe in the Christian god...Turek fumbled around and evaded a direct answer, said something cute and vague like "hell is being out of the sight of god"...and then they had a few more exchanges till she said, "but you can't prove the existence of your God" to which Turkek shot back.."can you prove he doesn't exist"?

I so wanted her to answer right back, "I don;t have to prove he doesn't exist...because I'm not the one making the fantastic claim, you are". But she was shy and didn't think of the proper response....which I have posted here several times....If I claim pigs fly on Mars and say there is no need for me to prove such a fantastic statement...and therefore if YOU can't prove they don't...then I MUST be right".

It is the responsibility of the one making the fantastic claim to back it up...if I say there is a banana tree over that mountain, I may be excused from providing proof because we all know banana trees exist, so, one might well be "over that mountain"...unless of course we are in Finland and the mountain is covered in ice and so is everything else.....under those circumstances this otherwise believable claim becomes a "fantastic" claim, one which I would have to provide the evidence for before I could try to sell those bananas to a Finn...I can't very well say, "look, Sven, I don't have to prove anything and since you can't prove there can't be a rare type of banana tree flourishing in the snow and ice over that mountain, pay up."

What a piece of sophistical dribble! I can think of a 1000 preposterous claims I can make and then, when no one can prove ME wrong, claim that I must be right.

"Up your asshole there is a brightly lit Casino...and since you can't prove there isn't, there MUST be"! I mean, REALLY!!!
