...watching debate panel including Dawkins wherein he trots out his favorite charge against Islam when he asks a rather irritated Muslim, "what does your religion teach about what to do with an apostate"? The Muslim was naturally uncomfortable because he knew the answer was "kill an apostate".....and Dawkins looked smug and "scientific" as the moderator changed the subject quickly....but there is no need for the Muslim to feel stressed or embarrassed by that question and challenge...all he had to say was..."what does your bible say should be done to the man who gathers sticks on the Sabbath"? The answer is the same..."kill him"...though I must say apostasy can at least be understood as a serious matter whereas picking sticks doesn't. The point is that both religions and their books have preposterous statements in them...and while Dawkins would say, "ah yes, but we no longer kill people for gathering sticks"...the point still is that they USED to and indeed continued killing witches and all sorts of people they disliked...so the distinction between the two isn't as dramatic as Dawkins makes it seem. --------------------- |
