...Conservatives see the Middle Class asthe breeding ground for change and rebellion and even revolution...the working poor have no leisure time to read, to think, or to indulge in activism....they´re to busy making enough to eat and keep a roof over their heads. Castro was from the middle class...and he was a lawyer himself....Washington and Franklin and the rest of them were all middle class with the leisure time to think and act and even CARE.

Back in the 60s wages went a lot farther...there was a strong middle class and its kids could afford college and the living was easy...and Conservatives saw the result: college kids, not traumatized by their education, thinking only of getting that job and what insurance to buy and what would they retire on, but having the time to CARE, to care about poverty, civil rights, women´s rights, the environment, the Vietnam War, equality, justice for all etc. and to get INVOLVED...to strike, to attend meeting across the country, to organize. No one let worries about a future job stop them from getting involved, for trying to make America more inclusive...and it WORKED...so long as there was a middle class with the leisure time to be involved in their democracy more than just ponder a vote every few years.

Revolution starts in the middle class...rebellion comes from the poor, but it seldom produces the leaders a movement needs to succeed, to become a true Revolution. And the leaders of revolutions have always come from the middle class....

The middle class is disappearing...has been for a long time...and it was no accident. By lowering taxes on themselves while reducing wages and removing jobs, the wealthy have increased and solidified their power...which was their intention all along...this is what Think Tanks do, and college brats like Rove and others; they THINK of ways to advance their agenda...of course they have to give their agenda the cover of, what? Religion...Patriotism...anti-communism/socialism, which is just anti-unionism in its own disguise, and most recently, TERRORISM.

The real targets have been our own Constitution (which is the product of a middle class), our Treasury and the Middle Class it self, where revolutions begin.
