...that it was the events of 9/11 that woke him up to the dangers posed by organized, revealed, religion...in other words it was Islam that scared the shit out of him, not Christianity. Nothing could show the Euro-centric point of view more than this, plus the inevitable "comfort factor" of living among Christians all your life, even if you reject their religion: that so long as their bestial nature had been confined to attacking everyone else BUT you, you didn't mind Christian mindlessness and bloodthirst all that much...but that when Islam, in this instance, finally had enough of Christian bullying and decided to fight back, Hitchens woke up to the realization that all such religions were "equally" offensive and dangerous.

Even if it were true that Islam, that its teachings , is what gave Muslims the courage, will, determination etc., to take up what meagre weapons they could fashion or improvise and at great personal risk stand up to the technologically and economically vastly more superior armies of the Christian West, I, of all people, would have to give Islam that credit: that it, and apparently it alone, gave such desperately outgunned people the courage to defend their families and homes.,,,but I believe some among them would have started regardless...whether there was Islam or no for there is only so much people can take...look at the United States, wealthy beyond all others but STILL murdering innocent Iraqi babies for what 19 Saudis did...it seems even they had "had enough"...well, if Americans can take no more...then why must Muslims endure every crime and calamity and never strike back? To expect them to do so is to go against human nature as well as natural law, two things which Hitchons champions, or, I thought he did.

This is what makes me uncomfortable about what he presents as universal condemnation of them all...the fact that he didn't mind until some of what Christians were letting loose on the world came back to bite HIS ass. But then, instead of first and foremost blaming Christianity for the many crimes it has committed for centuries, he instead saved his bitterest venom for those who had become the TARGETS of Christianity and were only just now fighting back.

He says that he doesn't believe that any Christians REALLY believes all his nonsense...yet he insists that Muslim freedom fighters are all BELIEVERS in their's. Christians are committing their crimes for political economical reasons using Jesus as a mask and cover and rallying point...but he won't grant that Muslims are engaged in a political battle, also stemming in part from economic hardships imposed by Christians and merely using Muhammad as a rallying point etc.

Muslims would never have attacked the West for any insults towards Islam...it is not insults, even when the result of free speech, that they mind but rather the MURDER of their innocent children...just as it is not Judaism that Palestinians hate but rather what is being DONE to them...they would be as angry at Spaniards etc.

I would be more inclined to treat Hitchens' stand as a moral one if he admitted that it matters a great deal which religion started it, the same one that started genocides and pogroms and then a Holocaust against Jews...instead it looks like he is against Islam first and foremost without questioning why Muslims have good reason to despise what Christians are DOING...

The condemnation should start with the one religion, of the three, that has caused the most misery to innocent people of all faiths but particularly to Jews and Muslims...he can admit it in the case of the Jews but refuses to give an inch in the case of Muslims....I find that dishonest and un-historical too.
