How do you explain to our “bright young minds” especially, who’re old before their time, that you have to question official versions of everything or we never would have stopped eating each other raw? Who now would take the word of the Bush administration about Iraq…or the need to fight Iran next? Are the claims of Weapons of Mass Destruction to be taken any more seriously than the Shroud of Turin or Abgar? Who but the most helpless babes in the woods, who will always react to their own minds as if they were placed there and controlled by “enemies of the state”; wild “liberals”…or enemies of god; the “devil”, would continue to believe anything from any official source rather than think for themselves, only a little? Assuming one can be bothered with books by those “dumb scholars”…as one bright young Assyrian writes.

Likewise with church officials, who are every bit the liars and toadies as any government officials and have just as much interest in their bottom lines as any corporate head, but who hide behind a sanctimonious wall of gods and miracles and favors they are doing humanity when we are the ones supporting them in their ill-gotten wealth.

The person who walks his life in a well worn groove is not an “explorer”, neither is the one who thinks along sanctioned lines “bright”. The one who reduces his mind to the functions of a toaster is not “thinking” when he simply operates as he came from the factory . How do you explain to a youth, who was raised “good and proper”, that “dark toast” and “light toast” are not intellectual positions but buttons on a machine, commands imprinted at its inception? Neither was the mind intended to be primarily a warehouse for musty ideas.

Someone touted as being “very bright” shouldn’t be encouraged to measure his mental capacity by how much information he can swallow whole and spit back on demand…this is to be an upended turkey whose plucked arse is crammed full of “stuff”, to make a tastier meal, not a better turkey. This is not what the mind, which is at the other end, was intended to be...it is a misuse and an abuse of the mind, our most sacred possession (which invented gods), not it’s “education”.

I don’t exactly know how Assyrians came to be Christian…I don’t know exactly what Saddam said in private…but I’m sure as hell not going to take Bush’s word for the one or a priest’s word for the other. They’re both lying sons of bitches when it comes to maintaining themselves in power but it seems harder for some people to admit that about the clergy, which is how they maintain themselves; because we are too decent to call them what they are, not because they aren’t and don’t show themselves to be so daily.

Discounting what Bush says you can read around him and think and try to come up with your own ideas for what’s at stake and what’s behind this war…of course you’ll never know exactly, but you don’t need to be exact…Bush wasn’t, but rather was way off…but he, and we, went ahead anyway… and not a single priest alive today was there to see how our conversion took place…so let’s make an intelligent and informed guess at it. What could get worse?

We know, because modern history, recorded history, attested to by eyewitnesses and often enough by disgusted or overly proud members of the clergy who witnessed these events, have told us that people were dragged into Christ…they did not “embrace” him…they were driven to their knees before him, not in adoration at first but in fear and pain and humiliation. That’s no reflection on Christ…would to god people could understand what was better for them, in every instance…but they don’t and especially resent the use of force.

No doubt individuals were convinced and converted willingly as many have done in many religions, for it is in the nature of the individual to experiment, but the entire population of city or state or nation; never. There isn’t a single instance wherein an entire culture went over willingly and in peace…not one. They were all…all…. Forced, gradually or not, into it by their rulers. Not even the Romans, who were among the first to “convert” did it willingly or honestly, but were dragged into Christianity by their emperors who were no Christians but politicians desperate for a unifying faith that would bring order, an obsession with them, to an empire made up of over one hundred different countries and People and that many more religious beliefs.

Not until Frederick The Great of Prussia, 1,700 years after Jesus, announced that during his reign every man would have to get to heaven on his own accord and that all their king would require of them was obeidience to the civil law, did the mantra that a single, and therefore supposedly “unifying”, religion was indispensable to a secure rule disposed of once and for all. Not till then was this obsession of kings and priests and corporate heads and generals abandoned and people allowed freedom of conscience and faith…because Frederick saw first hand in the murderous religious wars of Europe that this religion, and perhaps any religion forced upon people leads instead to disunity and mayhem…for none of it developed naturally within the soul and from the depths of the people’s history and traditions and so becomes “misunderstood”, twisted and turned into a caricature of itself through acts of overt or unconscious rebellion…usually always playing out in violence of some sort, reflecting the long-ago violence and brutality used to bring the people to their knees before Christ.

Christianity did not “triumph” until pagan temples were destroyed, the priesthood cashiered, the populace warned, on pain of death, to “embrace” Christianity and all resistance crushed did paganism finally disappear. The same was true among us…it would have taken dynamite to blast us out of our belief in Ashur…and dynamite is exactly what was used.

How do we know this, or think we do? We know what the Romans did to convert their own people and we know the reason was to create a single religion along the lines of Christian meekness and a divine command to render unto Caesar whatever he wanted…which is what the Caesars had been trying to get anyway…now they had a Christian god, his own son to his own father no less, the maker of the universe too, telling the Romans and those they conquered to pay up and shut up and await their reward “when you are dead”….which Rome did all it could to make happen the sooner.

We know for several centuries the Sassanians, who controlled Iraq and the Romans, who ruled Syria and Egypt fought wars whose border or frontier shifted between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in other words, ground zero was BetNahrain. If the Romans enforced Christianity at their capitol city and everywhere else in their empire for reasons of unity, control and security, they surely did the same along their borders…with the added advantage that those Christians now swallowed up by the Sassanians would form a friendly base within the enemy camp…and sure enough, the Sassanians ceased to be tolerant towards Christianity when the priesthood aided the Romans at Nisibis…

We believe that Nestorianism and I suppose Monophysitism, originated with us…that, and the myth about Abgar converting us during the lifetime of Christ (which would have meant into Judaism as Christ was a Jew, though slightly reformed), is about as big a piece of self-serving poppycock as can be imagined…how many ancient people have created myths as to their beginnings? We can go on believing our clergy and Bush too…but what a poor showing for people who claim to be Assyrians, or preen themselves on their “young brains”.

We talk as if the Christian sects owned BetNahrain before the Arabs came…as if it was a Christian kingdom, cruelly devastated by the Arabs. In truth there was no dominant Christian power in the region but battling sects and heresies of Christianity…BetNahrain by then was a common war zone for whomever came by and a dumping ground or place of refuge for Roman heretics…it was peopled by Christians, it’s true, but many pagans still. The same sects who are battling each other today were there then, each with a bishop and his thugs fighting for “unity’ which meant their own supremacy and the damnation of everyone else as heretics etc…just as they do today but in the guise of political parties.

It was no great challenge for the Sassanians and Romans too to conquer these squabbling illiterates who rated things of this earth as nothing, who were placing their hopes on an afterlife even then…indeed, who could not have conquered them back then, or at any time since? We can see today that they are their own worst or best enemies, betraying and casting out and diminishing their own numbers, shearing themselves of the best and brightest among them because the best and brightest refuse to be snookered by the nonsense these “patriots” have swallowed in great gobs…leaving the cowardly, the misfit, the ignorant and the transvestite to “get us a Christian nation”.

Come again?

History shows us that the Christians of Syria and Egypt, who were being ruled by Christian Byzantium, welcomed the Arabs as liberators, freeing them from the rapacious greed and religious persecution of the Romans, for it is also true that the Romans killed far more Christians, as heretics, after they too converted. And no doubt the Christians of Iraq were equally pleased because with the defeat of both the Sassanians and Romans, the constant warfare between the two and the by now well earned suspicion held of them by the Sassanian kings because of their treachery in the past would end…and the land be unified, finally, under one rule…and since the Arabs couldn’t begin to fathom the sectarian obscurities these sects were blinding each other over, they allowed all of them to live and grow in peace…more peace than that region and they had known for several centuries past.

The Arabs, properly speaking, did not conquer the Christians in those lands…they set them free and protected them in their squabbles…the Arabs conquered the Sassanians and Romans…who were indeed oppressing the Christians…though the Sassanians didn’t start out that way but changed their attitude as their Christian subjects or, no doubt their leadership, proved unworthy of trust.

The Christian sects were hardly pacifistic back then…true they would not take arms to defend themselves or country, but they did attack the “pagan” temples and worshippers and each other…that to them was hallowed fighting and divinely sanctioned hooliganism…there are recorded instances of them being admonished by the Sassanians and ordered to pay reparations for damages to pagan temples…that was the only “fighting” they would do…either against each other or against the “devil”…and that’s still the case with them today.

The Roman Church, and every other one, has lied through its teeth when it’s told how people came willingly and freely to Christ…we know damn well they are lying because we know how Africans and the entire New World, half the world, “came to Christ”…that despite countless official paintings, sculpture, books, manuscripts and “true confessions”, the natives of the New World were raped and murdered into Christ…because no matter how nice a new religion might be, cultures are bound up in their traditions, in the faiths in which they and their parents and children are born and buried…no one with a shred of self-respect wants to hear his ancestors are rotting in a hell they never heard of when they were laid to rest with tears and love and a belief in the gods of those people to take them home…who would be such a traitor to his own flesh and blood? It’s no slur against poor Jesus…but a condemnation of a church that sought earthly power and dominion over human beings by using him for its own selfish ends…and still does.

You can talk till you’re blue in the face to an African Christian…or Mexican or Chilean etc., explaining how the Conquistadors used the church and the church used the Conquistador’s guns and whips and stake to force their ancestors by rapine and murder into Christianity…but it will do you no good for the damage is complete and they will continue worshipping the god of the people who first devastated their lands and culture and dominate them today…likewise our Christians who insist that a Hebrew Messiah is exactly what the Assyrians were struggling to find all along and that when they found the Jewish Messiah (which only his power-mad followers and then emperors turned into a messiah for us all) and were no longer accursed and damned for educating the Hebrews only a little, but are now “real” and “fulfilled” Assyrians at last…as the Jewish god, father of Jesus, always intended them to be. And that fi they continue to be faithfull and fight among themselves, each of them convinced he and he alone “got it right”, Issaiah will come true and hand the correct sect a cleansed and made-pure Assyria, while the other sects burn in hell or Turlock.

Look at them. Could anything be further from the truth?

The forums and web pages out there today are evangelical and the ones that aren’t strictly so are the descendants of other heresies, or orthodoxy, of Rome, still fighting their battles over interpretations of a Jewish religion’s detritus. All their “work for Assyria” is work for the bible…in most cases their insistence that there must be an Assyria has nothing practical behind it at all…no “plan” and no “politics” but an insistence, rather, that Assyria must rise because the Jewish god said so…and so they wait on Issaiah…because if his prediction doesn’t come true, then the entire, perish the thought, bible must be false…this is their “Assyrian” position..this is what they use our Heritage for. And in truth, they are equally dedicated to making sure the hand of man doesn’t enter into it and far from working at political compromise, as they all claim, they work instead to undermine any plausible political solution, if there was such a possibility, or any peaceful accord with our Muslim brothers and sisters, as most of us have been able to maintain for centuries…for, like the orthodox Jews who reject the political machinations which brought about the state of Israel (though they agree to live there) when god alone was to do it, our Christian fanatics believe that only the hand of Zion must make an Assyria…in other words they are dedicated to their bible, to their Judeo/Christian heritage and not Assyria or the Assyrian Heritage.

And since Islam bars their way to the fulfillment of Issaiah and therefore to proving their bible correct, they despise Islam and will do anything, tell any lies they need to, in order to get other people to hate and kill Muslims…even though their own Assyrian brothers and sisters, who converted to Islam or agree to live in peace in Muslim countries, get killed in the process and maybe especially so, for these are the “sell-outs” and “traitors” you hear them denounce daily and for whom their especial hatred is most intense.

It’s no different than the hatred of Christians for Jews who still feel, after all these centuries, that in Judaism’s denial of Christ as the true Messiah and their continued refusal to be won over lay the biggest obstacles to the “unity of the faith” and confirmation that Christ was the one…something that bothered them no end and for which they killed millions of Jews. This is the reason that this “renewal of faith” in Christianity has led to an increase in violence and barbarism, because with greater “faith” comes that old conviction that those who don’t share your faith are thereby slandering it and your god and so deserve to die. And now it is Islam’s turn…as it was the turn of Judaism a few short decades ago…and as with Germany and Europe’s mad hatred, the destruction and death finally came home to roost, as it had during their religious wars…Hitler and his Christian allies turned out to be the worst enemies the German people had…and so it goes.

It is not necessary for modern Assyrians to return to a worship of Ashur…one can never go back and shouldn’t try to. But what we can see is that it’s done Assyrians no good at all to rely on a Jewish religion to bring them anything on earth but what it has so far…ignorance, poverty of soul and pocketbook, arrogance, envy beyond belief and growing disunity in the quest for religious conformity. And now, as if to crown their “achievements”…Kurdistan rises over their Assyria…but to them it’s merely another glorious proof that their god is displeased and so they must redouble their faith etc…something else they learned from the Hebrews.

Modern Assyrians simply need to think…but for themselves. That’s the only “worship” Ashur inspires or we need.
