...looks like we're still talking...still reading each other's posts...but at least the brave Assyrians for Christ don't have to confront me directly...that's how courageous they are...we can expect great things from such tough and resilient people....anyway...

BRAVO to Assyrian Student Movement

This is a response to Fred/Farid/Pancho's post about Joseph Dinavi's speech in San Francisco.

...BOO!

I was at Aid Society's Taste and I was amazed by all three speakers.

...you're "amazed" when we have a parade down Clark St in Chicago past the Pakistani burrito shoppe with our "queen" wearing a sequined gown from Woolworths, riding in a plywood chariot drawn by three hairy soccer "superstars"...you are very easily "amazed". I am just as easily chagrined.

Each had their own subject and together they brought the past, present, and our bright future.

...is it also "amazing" to you that three Assyrians found separate topics to talk about? You WOULD conclude you had a "bright future" based on three speeches.

I thought Assyrian Student Movement (Joseph) did a great job, because of his interesting speech (the room was silent and in awe hearing him),

...we were silent because we were bored silly...if being boring and self-important is doing a "great job" then look to see great results.

and because he was showcasing the entire room that there is a hope for our future through the involvement of the students

...you're so goddamned desperate to have "hope" that a speech sets you giddy with delight and possibilities....if talking achieved anything you'd all own the world.

and youth that seem to be the most disenfrachised today in our community.

...what a silly phrase...what does it mean? Is someone picking on you at the Mall? What would being enfranchised entail? Do you know what the word means? What rights or "franchise" are you denied?

Narsai and Fred may be fake and wannabe celebrities,

...you're cute. This is the cult of mediocrity...you look around you...look up and down the mall and you see someone like Narsai who's done so much...you see Assyrian public monuments...you see people who take our Heritage out in the world and gain pride and recognition for it and you become jealous and envious and fearful...you're afraid that the bar will be raised too high for you to step over with a "cake sale"...or a sequined gown..or a "petition to the world"...and so you listen to Danavi's speech and you LOVE IT! You love it because you want Assyria to be about speeches and plywood and glue and all the things you can do in your spare time....things that will cost you little to nothing...things where there isn't any competition or any high expectations...Narsai is a "wannabe" celebrity...but Danavi is going to enfranchise you....you are all madly in love with mediocrity and terrified lest it becomes "difficult" to DO something Assyrian....so you rave over more TALK.

but the real Assyrian Aid Society appreciated Joseph's speech since it talked about the most valuable in our community, our kids,

...kids are valuable...as tools which is the way you see them, if they're actually useful for building something...they aren't valuable JUST for being kids...all kids TALK!

The "real" Aid Society is there at the Ritz BECAUSE of Narsai...left to Danavi and you they'd be expressing their "pride" from the Civic Club.

and how his group is interesting them and getting then invovled in our affairs.

...you have no affairs...nothing meaningful anyway...Danavi was as vain and boring as you are...most Assyrian kids have been spoiled by indulgent parents into believing their turds are pearls...unfortunately when they get out in the world and have to compete, as an ethnic group, with people whose parents had higher expectations for their children, they fall flat...it's easy for you and Danavi now to make speeches and point out to your POTENTIAL...we all wish you had some...the sad reality is that you'll get jobs and pay the next Christian nation to attack Iraq...so much for your "potential"...who needs it?

I know this full well, because many of the directors of the AAS from different areas hailed his speech.

..what else can they do? What else do they have to hail? They keep hoping that if they KEEP hoping, something might come along. You want very much to deflect from your lack of ACTUAL achievements, or the possibility that you learned anything about how to implement anything, to point out that you have great HOPE in doing something...if that dull and uninspiring speech gives you "hope"...then Iraq is looking real good and there should be a Nineveh any day.

Any true organization that cares about the future of our culture will care about the youth,

...that's why I'm saying this...I'm not giving any of us a free pass any longer...when Danavi can DO something or SAY something different from the kinds of hollow posturing we're used to, then he'll get some praise....but for finding his way from the airport and knowing a fork from a knife...even knowing how to tie his tie..he gets no special consideration.

if Narsai and Fred dont care that a student group from Chicago flew all the way to the Bay Area to present in a dinner for Assyrian, then they dont care about Assyrians, period.

...big deal...people fly all over the place all the time...you want to be accorded respect because you got on an airplane and flew? Did you steer the plane too?

Too bad Fred just put his foot in his mouth regarding the future of Assyrian Student Movement and Joseph,

...sounds like my foot went someplace else...

since the Assyrian Student Movement is working in colaboration with the Assyrian Aid Society to host a special fundraising party this Friday....I guess he got invited back a bit earlier than expected.

...is he going to speak again or just eat? Nothing has ever come from your collaborations, your speeches, your fundraising...while you raise funds to repair a tooth in a child' s head you ALSO send money to blow that child apart...but you're so engrossed in YOUR "contribution" you don't see the death and destruction you've brought to Iraq or how you've made life almost impossible for the Christians there...had you dweebs protested loudly the coming slaughter of the children of Iraq..as you squak about the Christian martyrs of 1933, you might have some cause to pat yourselves on the back...the Hitler Youth did more than you...but along the same path...you were delerious with joy to think a Christian nation was going to murder your Muslim brothers and sisters...just as the Nazis, who also had bright young people, were thrilled to be killing THEIR Jewish brothers and sisters. You just give worse speeches.

I want to give the Assyrian Student Movement and the advisors a big thank you from a fellow Assyrian who is grateful for his work for the youth and essentially the future.

...speaking and raising funds and hosting and flying and eating aren't "actions"...there isn't a damn thing you can do of consequence...you just get wet all over at the thought of meaningless actions because they carry no risk to you...how can any of you fail when you've set the bar on the ground?

We shouldn't diss the very people, especially youth, who support our most benevolent organizations like Aid Society.

...who dissed them? Danavi gave a rambling, meaningless speech in which he mimicked what they ALL ramble about... "hope" and "faith" aren't verbs...they are not action words...they are nouns. Danavi is a noun. If he continues on the path he's on we can look forward to his being president of the AANF someday...big deal.

Just an inquiry: Fred/Pancho stated that the people running the student group in Chicago attend junior colleges, can this be verified or in reality be refuted. Thanx!

...what difference would that make?
