"Gradually, the very structure of Janissary organization was changed. Because of the opportunities open to the officers, many Turks sought to have their children enrolled in the Janissary corps, and by the last quarter of the seventeenth century the Janissaries ceased to be recruited from Christian families."

..."last quarter of the seventeenth century".....that would be from 1675 to 1700.

Are you serious? You want to condemn Turks for what they were doing 300 years ago but not mention what Christians ARE doing to Muslims today...and did to Jews a few decades ago? Is this your evidence of Muslim atrocities?

Let's see...at the same time that this was going in Turkey, do you have ANY idea what Christian nations were doing....do you? A system so "awful" that finally even Turkish parents wanted their sons enrolled.

Keep it up...like we always say here; without your help our task would be so much harder.
