Ameen, and Mesopotamia played a great role in that as well. Up to this day there are pleanty of educated Iraqi Muslims and they are proud of both their Islamic and Assyrian/Mesopotamian heritage. The Islamic empire worked together with other great people who had a golden past and took things to another level. If you compare the Assyrian empire with the Islamic empire, you will notice a lot in common from bravery to achievements. Look at people like Ashur Banipal and king Sargon and then there are people like Khalid bin Walid(sword of Allah) Ali(lion of Allah) Hamza(lion hunter)etc. They had a lot in common and later as the Muslims migrated to Mesopotamia and became mixed with Assyrians and other Mesopotamians, together they achieved great things. That is why one see so many proud Muslims in Iraq who have a strong passion for their heritage. Mesopotamia has great history both during the ancient eras of Assyria, Babylonia, etc and then once again in the Islamic era. Iraq is so famous in Islamic history and book. Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) spoke a great deal on that area, and said that nations would rise and fight for the wealth that lies beneath and around the two great rivers(tigris and euphrates).

So yeah you are very right of that and look at Saddam how brave he was and how long lasted. He saw himself as a continuaty of a long chain of Mesoptamian kings which had ended over 2000 years ago. He was definetly an Assyrian and so are many other Iraqi Muslims. That is not a secret nor something that is denied or else they wouldn't have ancient sculptures, articrafts and other things if they hated their history. Iraq had post stamps of winged bulls and hanging gardens and many other things. It is a rich nation with history and recources and clowns like Fred Aprim want us to believe that out of the mighty empire of Assyria there is only the few Christians of Iraq left. Funny people.
