>B. “ It is sometimes said that the Assyrian or Nestorian Christians have no connection with the Assyrians of antiquity, either by language or, so far as is known, by race. With all respect, the present writer ventures to differ altogether from that conclusion, and to assert his belief

...based on what? This is his "belief"...belief is an OPINION.

that the present Assyrian, Chaldean, or Nestorian does represent the ancient Assyrian stock, the subjects of Sargon and Sannacherib, so far as that very marked type survives at all.

.."that marked type",,,,marked by what? By being Christians? Why aren't their Muslim neighbors "marked"?

It is not a matter that is capable of documentary or monumental proof, from the nature of things,

...and that's exactly what you would need for this fantastic claim...but then you're a Christian missionary...it is also "your belief" that Jesus walked on water...who can take a Voodoo priest seriously?

but certain facts that can be quoted seem to speak at least as loudly as do the words of any historian.

...if they ARE "facts"...why wouldn't an historian speak them???

Here are a people who, in the time of the beginning of the Christian era, are founded living in the lands where, in the year 600 B.C. the Assyrian stock had been established since history began;

...there are people living in Greece today in a land where Greeks have been living since history began...what do you suppose the reaction would be to one of them claiming he is a direct descendant of Socrates and wants the Parthenon back! No evidence necessary.......really???

nor is there any record of any considerable immigration into, or emigration from, that land, in the interval.”

...what??? For a 1000 years Greeks strongly influenced that region...Greek replaced Aramaic among the leadership just as Aramaic had replaced Akkadian...and before that the Persians ruled the region....and before that Babylonians, and before them Kassites and before them Amorites and maybe you've heard of the ARABS?....Mesopotamia was the crossroads of the ancient world...EVERBODY moved into and out of it.

...another amateur.
