...I read in the NY Times that gas is $2.75 a gallon in Mexico...is it really "market forces" or just greed and a complicit government of oil people?

...I beg to differ about religion. Hitler had a Jewish chauffer and a Jewish throat doctor. I seriously doubt he believed any of the carp he was spilling about the threat of world-wide Jewry...just as I'm sure neo-cons are knowingly blowing smoke up our arses about the threat to the world from Islam. The point is that these things WORK...and very well, and that's because of religion...Christianity to be exact.

...Hitlet couldn't have become as popular as he did is he'd simply said he wanted to start a war so his industrial backers could get rich and because they needed petroleum...that wouldn't have done it. Instead he appealled to a hard-won hatred of Jews that the Church, no one else, had been cultivating for centuries. He needed the kind of emotional hysteria that only religion can provide.

...Same with Bush. He couldn't have declared war on an oil-rich country that hadn't done a thing to America without the specter, played like an instrument now for ten years, of Islam coming to destory us. Once again this has been cast in light of a religious crusade...Muslims, we are told, hate Christians and are envious at the same time.

...religion, used as only Christians have, has the power to unhunge people completely...people already taught to be suspicious of "reason" and to favor "faith" instead...that's why it's so damn hard to make any sense to them, and why they're willing to have "faith" in whatever outlandish nonsense serves their religion's needs...and this war was definitely cast in the light of a defense of their religion by "attacks from Islam".
