>One of his theories as all those who attack the Assyrian nation , that the English gave us the name , without questioning why the English if did that , just chose the Assyrian name and not , ARAB, ARAMEAN, CHALDAEAN or CANAANITE? THE answer is very simple, that these people were in contact with our forefather's who wrote about our people, because many of them learned our language and saw Malpana Gewarges of Arbel (A.D. ? - 1325 )WHO SAID WITH PRIDE THAT HE IS WITH OTHERS ASSYRIANS and described ASSYRIA as the center of learning - ATHUR MAB'ATH YOLPANA - , NOW let us take this professor account to be true and the Britons gave us the name, kindly here is the link which shows how a Jacobite Bishop by the name S. Barsoum what he is saying in his appeal to the league of nation - the letter is in English and translation also with the Arabic language .
>Could you ask this Professor , if the NESTORIANS were named ASSYRIANS , who made this BISHOP of the ORTHODOX CHURCH TO CALL HIMSELF ASSYRIAN?

My brother let me clarify something first, and that is that I am not working against the "Assyrian Nation" nor do I have a problem with believing that we and whoever else who believes we are of Assyrian descent are not allowed to do so. I have no problem with it because I cherish and love the ancient Mesopotamians and they are the ancastors of the millions of modern people who reside in Bet Nahrain. As for the Dr. Joseph, I don't know him personally so I don't want to talk bad about him nor am I taking sides. But I have been reading his book and from what I perceive from his book, he sounds sincere at what he does and I can't accuse him of anything bad nor can I say he is a great guy because I don't know much about him. What I do know is what I have read in his book and I can't just dicredit his book because it's not like he is telling lies nor is he unable to back his stuff up.

As for people in the past speaking about Assyria, or a bishop calling himself Assyrian, I wouldn't doubt that there were exceptions of people who may have used Mesopotamian names or called themselves "Aturaya" but they are an exception barely a handful of people. It's not like they were just calling themselves "Assyrian Nation" as we see today in the last century or so. That was something that started with the British around ww1 and after the arechological discoveries. We already admit that it was the Vatican that named the Catholic Syriacs as "Chaldeans" and there is even some evidence that they were mistaken when they called it "Chaldean church of Babylon" because they thought "Baghdad" is ancient city of "Babylon" which is not the same. Now if the Catholic Syriac speaking Christians accepted the "Chaldean" name, why is it impossible for the same thing to have been done to the "Nestorians"?

The Chaldean and Aramean name was used in the past they would be just as valid to be used and recognized as is the "Assyrian" name. You say the British named us "Assyrians" because they knew we were but there is no proof to support that. It may be true but there is no proof for that. It's not like they actually did DNA testing and matched us up with Ashur Babipal, and of course I know you are not saying that you are 100% related to king Ashur. But the British had interest in the region and just as the Catholics created the modern "Chaldean" people, the same thing the British did with the Nestorians by calling them "Assyrians". This was convenient for them because they needed an ally and in order to make it better why not name them Assyrians when no one in particular was claiming the name as being part of an "Assyrian Nation". So they named them Assyrians and from this we get the modern "Assyrian Nation", "Assyrian Peoples" and all the other things we find on Assyrian web sites. If they truly knew we were Assyrian and they named us that because they believed we were, what did they do for us besides bring destruction and problems? They are among the same people now who are denying that we are the "direct descendants of the ancient Assyrians".

Now, I don't need no British, Italian or anyone to tell me what to call myself or how I feel about the ancients, but I know that this modern "Assyrian Nation" or "Assyrian identity" that is now in existense is not ligit nor is it going anywhere and for many reasons. What makes this issue more strange and less believble is that our people had no knowledge of the ancient Assyrians, had nothing in common with them nor were they calling themselves "Assyrians" as we know. They were calling themselves everything else and were proud of being "Nestorians" and Christians no matter where they lived whether under Turks, Arabs, etc. There wasn't any interest in ancient Assyrians and the horrible things they reading about the ancients in the Jewish books(Ot) made it even worse. It wasn't until last century that they bgan calling themselves "Assyrians" and demanding an "Assyrian Nation". Had they preserved at least some of the culture and tradition of the ancients it would be better. Had they been calling themselves "Aturaye" there wouldn't be a problem or question.

But to have lived for centuries and centuries as only Syriacs and as Christians and to suddenly come and demand an "Assyria" is not going to fly; especially not by claiming direct descent, claiming to be indegenous and other claims they make. We may feel that North Iraq is our land but we can't expect to get it by crying to the west, claiming to be persecuted when in reality we are being punished for sedition or breaking the laws of the nations we live in. In America we go to jail for not paying taxes and imagine if an African American promotes what they call problems or breaking the laws, and we expect Bush or the west to say something to Turkey, Iraq, or Kurds? It isn't working and it never will work this way. This strategy is not working and there has to be stories of "persecution" daily just for the Fred Aprim's "Assyrian Nation" to continue functioning. It isn't working and never will because it's based on falsehood. If we are honest with ourselves and change strategies maybe it be another issue but these nationalists are not having it another way.

Thank you for the kind words and as always it's a pleasure talking to you, God Bless.
