...most of the people yelling racist slurs seem to be drunk or otherwise discombobulated...and as such, aren't really fair targets...

...I suppose the old saw that bad speech should be met by more and better speech, and not censorship, can apply with violence as well? Should "bad violence" be met with more and better violence?

I think cities who are confronted with free speech demands to hold rallies should only allow debates, not harangues. I remember during the Civil Rights movement and anti-Vietnam days, debates were held all the time between opposing sides...rules of civility and debate norms were adhered to and people went away with at least detailed understanding of opposing views.

FOX has turned all of us into "shouters", not talkers.....free speech is now free ranting where no one learns or even understands much of anything besides slogans.
