...not only were they eager to believe they are Assyrians because of the benefits they thought it might bring, but they were also willing to change their "dear" religion when they hoped the Russians would protect them if they all converted to the Russian Orthodox Church...which they would have done gladly...just as they happily switched to Presbyterianism, Lutheranism, Baptism, Pentacostalism and would have switched to anything else if they could have benefitted from it...the sad thing is that it never occured to them to remain true to THEMSELVES, which was at the core of Dr Joseph's argument; that they had a noble enough history as Nestorians until the caught the British disease of "Assyrianism" and gave away any self-respect they'd built up over the centuries...and today we see them, strangers in a strange land begging for their "pride".
