...how glibly we were taught to scold the Germans for allowing Hitler to rise to power...and then change laws so that he could do as he wished...and then we scolded the people some more for not rising up against him when he began sending intellectuals and people of conscience to prison...and when it was obvious that he and his Christians had committed unspeakable acts....we told them they had been wrong to obey "wrong" commands..that there was a higher authority which demanded they take action against their own leaders, duly elected and sworn into office and whom they had sworn loyalty to...we said there is something higher than patriotism and we hanged several Nazis who hadn't lived up to our expectations and then looked down our noses at those cowardly Germans, the "Good Ones" especially.....well, now we know how these things begin, and progress and how even we, yes we, can't be bothered to stir ourselves when the first steps down that road are taken.....

I always wondered..."when did the first Jews realize it was time to get out"? That something wicked was coming which would have to take its course and bring down the tyranny politicians were easing into place....one law at a time...a little here, a little there..."why, you hardly notice it happening".................until.

Clearly Americans feel they don;t deserve liberty....they may be right.
