I wholeheartedly agree with Pancho's breakdown of "Terror-Capitalism" and where Israel fits into that. But I also feel that Israel and the Israel lobby have a lot of influence in Amercian politics because they're aware they are being used as policemen in the region - just as past US administrations planned for the Shah to be their guarddog by selling him arms and training his secret police and armed forces. What's different with Israel is they're not Muslim and through dual citizenship, many Israelis are Americans. Rahm Emanuel is a dual citizen who went as high up as chief of staff; most of Clinton's, and now Obama's people, are American Jews (and almost all Jews world-wide are citizens and residents of countries where they reside and Israel). The left in Israel feels the same (perhaps even worse) indignation for speaking up against the occupation or anything that their government does in the name of all Israelis which the left feels is unlawful and immoral. When a Jew and a Zionist like Richard Goldstone is called "anti-Semite" or "self-hating Jew"; or men like Chomsky and Finkelstein, then there's something wrong. --------------------- |
