Just about every assyrian in Iraq benefited from Saddam Hussein but they were the first to betray him in 2003. This has been going on for decades and longer. He funded churches in Chicago and Detroit and they still turned on him and Iraq. It's not a surprise that they are not trusted. At least the ayatollah in Iran was smart enough to keep them out of the battle field in his military and only used Shia Iranians for fighting. They can never be trusted not even with fellow assyrians.
