...when I took the fight to Dr Ross years back, there were six assyrians in the small crowd for our debate...there were more yarmulkas than assyrians in the audience...earlier when I'd mentioned the need to show up and show support, Hanna Hajjar said, and I quote as if it was yesterday, "why should I do anything for YOU(emphasis mine), what have you ever done for me"?

..to Hanna and the rest like him this confrontation with Ross was MY moment in the spotlight...it was all about ME doing what none of them dared or figured out how to pull off...so all they saw was humiliation for them, especially if they showed up to make the point that someone else had done what their own words and posturing should have led THEM to do, if they meant any of it...they stayed away because they weren´t about to witness my "elevation". It wasn´t about assyria or justice and fair play at all, or actually confronting someone face to face where it would make a difference..it was what it always will be for these dweebs: a moment for someone ELSE to shine, personally (by their take on it)...and if it can´t be them, they´ll be damned if they sit in the audience and HELP that person rise "above them".

And that´s the way it is in assyria....no one wants to see another one get farther than he might...no one wants to contribute to the success of another, no matter how it may improve conditions for all of us...and even more telling, everyone hates the one among us who lifts the bar...who by his or her own example raises expectations and standards for what used to pass for "activist", or "assyrian"...or even artist...or writer...or professor.

The nationalists, being among the dumbest and most prowd of their dumbness are mighty happy with standards as they are now...standards so low that anyone with real ability is turned off by this carnival of mediocrity....no Aprim or Jassim wants to REALLY compete, or REALLY excel...no more than they want to REALLY fight anyone...except each other...that´s the reason they´re all in America, Europe and Australia hurling threats and warnings against far-away Arabs etc. who are safely out of reach, while at the same time sedning orders to the poor shmucks stuck back there to DEMAND this and that, while remaining far far away and only actually fighting each other.
