"..I'm reminded of a powerful scene in Speilberg's "Shoa"...a documentary on teevee several years back which interviewed survivors of Christian death camps..."
- There is a 9 1/2 hr. documentary from 1984? called Shoah by Claude Lanzmann who was in the French Resistance and good friends with Sartre and lover to Simone de Beauvoir -- I've yet to see Spielberg's Shoah project --but in Lanzmann's Shoah there's a part when a survivor visits his former christian neighbors in a chilling scene of all of them standing together in almost a portrait-like shot.
My Jewish friends in LA are all liberals and progressives who's grandparents were Trotskyist union organizers, all of them working class people, who's kids and grandchildren only recently (through education and hard work) managed to have some sort of middle-class status.. People forget that Jews worked for their money and contributed a great amount to progressice social programs which won women, minorities, and the oppressed in this country some level of legal recourse and rights.
