I posted this because I assume it was coincidentally written sometime around which the US set the precedent of assassinating one of their own citizens, Anwar al-Awaki. David Rosen, the writer, was one of the students during the decade of the 60s fighting Reagan's version of Fascism in Berkeley. I could only guess that what he means by "our war with Fascims was long over" is that Germany was defeated. But even that's not true, since scholars like Chomsky have proven that in fact the Nazis won the war: the German Nazis, and the Allied corporate Nazis of Britain and America. Chomsky, Parenti and others, through a thorough study of declassified papers have pointed out that once the Germans surrendered, the following year they were put to work for the Americans and the British in a covert war against the left wing of the European Resistance, which was strongest in Southern Italy and was about to win in the first post-Fascist elections. In "Operation Paperclip" it's been well documented how the Allies set up former Nazis, like the "Butcher of Lyon", Klaus Barbie, who through Croatian priests in a Vatican-run secret "ratline" was shipped out to South America, where he was instrumental in overthrowing Bolivia's government, and becoming a "boss" narco-trafficker and a multi-millionaire capitalist. So, I agree, Fascism was never defeated, instead it was co-opted, broken-down and studied, updated, refined, and put to use once again.. It's come a long way from the days of the Church of Christ to the Temple of the Dollar.
