...when Hitchens challenges an American Muslim about claims of intimidation agsinst the Muslim community in America he rants on about Salman Rushdie, fatwas, and Ayatollahs as being the REAL intimidators...when the UN tries to make it illegal to insult Islam he blwes his cool insisting that they better get used to such freedoms....and the point gets lost....he claims to see no "intimidation" of Muslims when a Christian shoots a bullet through a stolen Quran and throws it at the door of a Muslim student center...this is not a hate crime he says, because there is no threat of violence! How can he say that when the entire world now knows the war on Iraq was based on lies and that Iraq never did a thing to deserve it? Does he really mean there is no violence going on, right now, as he debates, against innocent Muslims? And should Muslims NOT feel threatened, with actual violence, when they see Muslim children being starved to death...and wonder what will happen to them next? Should the Jews NOT have been frightened out of their wits when Hitlerīs laws against them began to be enacted? Must they have waited till the cattle car doors closed on them? Does he really mean that a Muslim, even an American Muslim, has no legitimate right to feel threatened by Christian acts of vandalism against them or their mosques...and does it really answer the point to bring up Khomeni and his fatwa against Rushdie and state that because of that an American Muslim woman of 20 years of age has no business seeing a bullet riddled Quran as a hate crime...a statement about not only what Muslims can expect but also what they are enduring right now and have been for decades? You mean there is NOT hatred of Muslims and Islam going on right now and for some time now....and do you mean to say that THEY brought it on themselves??? Isnīt that exactly the point Hitler made...that Jews ASKED FOR IT? How does a Muslim American ASK for violence, except by BEING Muslim? Can you, in freedom-of-speech-America, right now, shoot a bullet into a Torah, toss it at Jewish students and NOT expect to be arrested? Yet itīs mrely a "freedom of speech" of issue if itīs a Quran nd youīre a Muslim? Anyway, Iīd love to debate him on this point...Iīve seen some of his weaknesses...and they can be exploited. He is a Christian who attacks the religion but DEMANDS respect for the culture and world-view of Christians....well, it is not the religion that Muslims object to..it is what these people DO...and Muslims are not defending themselves against Christian aggression and the theft Palestine and the persecution of Palestinian people because of the teachings of Muhammad...they are defending themselves from AGGRESSION....by ANYONE. It just HAPPENS that the aggressors are Christians (again) as it so HAPPENS that their religion is Islam...the shoes could be on the other feet...Iraq could be totally Christian and America completely Muslim and Iraqis would STILL fight back! Itīs not the religion, and it isnīt enough to be critical of the religion or all religions...what has to be condemned are the ACTIONS...and it was not Muslims who began meddling in the Westīs affairs but the other way around....they would be defending themselves even if they were athiests...Hitchens should respect that since he is one. --------------------- |
