Hitchens can't possibly be ignorant...he MUST know these very statistics...had there been a single war of conquest or to forcibly convert people in say 1600,1700, 1800, 1900, 2000 he would have been only too glad to mention it, in gory detail...but there is no such thing, so what does he reach for? The story that the very first people to declare war on the United States were Muslims, specifically Tangier pirates who said they had a religious right and mandate to take American sailors sailing in their waters and sell them as slaves...this is what Hitchens uses as proof that Islam has always been out to get the Christian West...has he ever heard of the Christian Slave Trade?

Can the man really be so foolish? Didn't Christians also cite their own Bible when condoning slavery from the pulpits of America? Didn't America seize people of African heritage to sell as slaves...can Africa today use that as justification to kill innocent American children? Because they are afraid America wishes them harm because of the SLAVE TRADE?

I think your assessment of Hitchens and the rest is spot balls on...they are racists who may be down on Christianity but who support the claims of superiority of the White Man.

But, really. In his heart of hearts he has to know he is lying or at the least playing shabby intellectual games...and indeed many of his friends from younger days when Hitch was anti-establishment have denounced him as toadying up to Power in his nonage.
