In writing my article I'm having to read Dr Joseph's book more carefully and I suddenly realized why only Christians make these claims to direct descent...why they were the first to do it.

Contrary to what our boys say, it was not the Assyrian name that was first used to describe Nestorians...it was Chaldean...and that came about because the Catholic missionaries sent from Rome built their mission in what was known as the ancient land of the Chaldeans...and therefore called the Nestorians who came back to Catholicism "Chaldeans" to distinguish them from the rest of the Nestorians who stayed with their church.

When, a few centuries later, the Assyrian ruins were uncovered and Euros started calling the Nestorians Assyrians, they accepted this designation because they too wanted to be ancient and special...but this nonsense only started WITH Christians, with those who first were called Chaldeans...and the others who later wanted to be Assyrians...it was from the beginning only a Christian hoax....had nothing to do with any Iraqi Muslims.
