I think the major problem this country faces is coming to terms with its frontier past and cowboy days when the range was wide open and free and you could do anything you wanted...kill any Native...enslave any person, breed slaves like cattle and sell their offspring...in other words no one told you what to do and you only looked out for yourself....Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett and Wyatt Earp and all that. It's the good old days but further back than the 50s.

This country was a haven for the individualist who wanted to get ahead, to make his fortune....no social responsibility, no "taking care" of anyone but yourself and your fortune...a time when, as Ron Paul says, the church and community took care of things...no government "interference". The way Americans talk about it you'd think our government was imposed on us by other countries...by strangers and "usurpers", practically by "enemies" and "traitors"....foreigners, instead of our own fellow-citizens and ourselves, if we chose to run for office.

We're going back, not to 1955, but to 1855, when you packed a gun and a rifle and took care of yourself. Just as we've gone back to the Old Testament, not the New. We think it was a purer time, a time when men were men and women were kept in their place...and Blacks too were servile and glad for any crumbs...a time before immigration of Darkies, unless as slaves....a time when Gays were unseen and hanged when they were...you know, the good old days.

Our country doesn't exist to better the lives of all its citizens, it exists to allow the free-ranging venture capitalist and gun nut to live as if we were back then, back when America was great and FREE. Other advanced countries left their frontier days long long ago....they've evolved to an imperfect socialist state because they recognize that if the majority of the country is poor and illiterate, everybody suffers....it's like the great Cholera epidemic in London when Charles Dickens warned the wealthy, living behind their mansions, that disease would reach out to them from the slums and get them too....America needs a major shift in how it sees itself....this not a freedom-loving country...it is an irresponsible and out-of-control bully.
