...I think in the case of Harris, Hitchens and Dawkins you have intelligent people who, though they laugh at their own religions, are embarrassed and defensive towards their cultures that PRODUCED those religions....and, in the case of Christians and those Jews who are shackled to Christian cultures, there is this grim determination to smear Islam so they can "even things up", at the very least...and at best, make islam seem WORSE.

Hence the push to make Islam even worse than Christianity when it comes to genocies and the like...Hitchens, Dawkins and Harris are well-educated enough to know the bloody history of Christianity...they know which religion has brought more bloodshed and violence and bigotry to the world...they know it is the religion of THEIR culture, of Western Civilization...they KNOW this...and they don't like it....so they feel impelled to at least make Islam's record seem as bad, if not worse...this is where they lose respect...and this is consistent with what their religious folk have done for centuries: blame the victims for fighting back in their defense.
