...from "The Age of Napoleon", by Will Durant I see on page 67 the following note:

...in 1798..."Congress pased the 'Alien and Sedition Acts', sharply restricting public criticism of the government"

Now, we're talking about the United States, that bastion of freedom and democracy and free speech...not Iraq or Turkey. One of the things I learned by sinking into the depths of assyria was that when we speak of "persecution" for "demanding our rights"...which includes calling the government of Iraq "usurpers"..."traitors"..."theives"...."murderers" who "deny Assyrian national rights"...what we're really receiving is the due punishment that comes to ANY people in ANY country teaching and preaching sedition.

If, in the glorious United States you could be carted off to jail, or shot and killed outright, as happened to Native American leaders in the 1970s...then it certainly should come as no shock, or surprise that the same things can happen in Iraq...or England...or Germany.

In other words, our so-called "national martyrs" were nothing more romantic or noble than criminals, guilty of the crime of sedition. It wasn't "persecution for beliefs" at all...it was prosecution for criminal acts, plain and simple.

Our nationalists are baisically trying to fool that "World" they talk of so much about into believing that an Assyrian bank robber or rapist or murderer wasn't really a criminal at all...but a "national hero"....who was being "persecuted" because of his "heritage and/or religion"...not prosecuted for his crimes.

See....you can learn, if you think..and read a dictionary at least once a year. You may not LIKE what you learn, but so what?
