....It is said of Tatian that HE said he was an Assyrian. He said no such thing. he was born in the province of the Roman Empire known as having BEEN Assyria, once. Being born in a place does not make you a member of the ethnic group that populated that place once, or even at the time of your birth.

Everyone knows that Arizona was once "the land of the Navajo" tribe. An assyrian couple passing through Tucson, whose baby chose that moment to be born, can be said to have had a baby born in "the land of the Navajo" tribe.....does that make this assyrian baby an ethnic Navajo tribal member? Of course not. It is merely a PLACE to him...not an ethnic identity.

He can say, later in life, that he was born a Navajo....but he would be lying, or stupid. take yer choice....ashur.

Today not even your place of birth promises you any sort of national recognition....babies born of Mexican parents, in America, are not even United States nationals...they remain Mexicans, even though born "in the land of the North Americans".

Being born in what was once, 2500 years ago, "Assyria" doesn't make you an ethnic Assyrian....it makes you IRAQI!!!!!...by nationality and citizenship. Your ehtnic "roots" are the same as every other Iraqi national, Christian, Hottentot, Muslim or atheist.
