...maybe not an actual experiment, let's say research instead. Harris contends that Islam is the greatest threat to civilization, specifically its mad intention, or even "mandate", of blowing everything up to get into heaven.

Ok...let's do a little exploration. Have Muslims always behaved this way? Were they suicide bombing anyone in 1950....in 1850....in 1960? If suicide bombing is the best way to get those 72 virgins, surely Muslims must have been eager to get there before the invasion of Iraq? Why weren't they blowing themselves up in 1980? A brief look back shows us that Muslims weren't always behaving this way, yet they were always Muslims, they always had that vision of paradise...so, why WEREN'T they blowing themselves up?

And if they only started recently, what could have caused them to begin behaving in a way they had not yet done? What happened?

These are questions Harris doesn't ask, which is odd since he extolls scientific method and the need for evidence and rational enquiry.

He says that you can't claim that the situation in Palestine caused 9/11...or poverty, or lack of education and opportunity...he then says that the men who crashed those airplanes into the towers were all educated, some with advanced degrees, all members of the middle class, or higher...so what was their excuse? First off we can't believe anything about "those men"....it wants more evidence that the incident happened at all like we think it did....and here it's surprising Harris doesn't use some of his science to question the official view, but never mind that.

The point I think is more important right now is why does Harris suppose that only poverty, or lack of education or even 72 virgins, are the only possible motives? You mean there is NOTHING political at play here...just religious fanatics? Again, if that is so, why weren't they fanatical BEFORE? Come on science...ask that question!

Does he mean that only rich or educated people OR religious "fanatics" fight in defense of their lands and homes? Muslims have no army that can stand up to the heavily armed Christian West...so, what are they supposed to do, lie down? No, they fight back and defend themselves and attack the aggressor as best they can...like any rational human would do...this is not "fanaticism"...it is normal and natural and very human, and religion is only incidental.

What IS inhuman is to starve babies to death in order to motivate their parents to topple a dictator....THAT smacks of religious fanaticism...Christian fanaticism.

Dawkins and Harris do a great disservice to the scientific method they otherwise champion when they make these blanket statements about a religion they admit they know nothing of and have no interest in learning about...Hitchens did the same..."don't bother me about Islam" he said in one debate....a curious comment for someone who presumed to slam it.

I say again that Islam as a religion is as bad as the rest..but Muslims are NOT fighting because of Islam...they are fighting because of what has been DONE to them...and to their everlasting credit I haven't heard a single Muslim make a single disparaging comment about Christianity or Jesus...not one. THEY know this is not about religion....they know that military chaplains bless soldiers who are fighting "for Jesus", even bless the bombs and airplanes...yet not a word has crossed their lips about the obvious contradictions of this religion of "Peace and Love". They wouldn't do it anyway, but even less because they know this is not about religion...religion is, once again the cover WE use...like we did in every land and continent we ravaged in the name of bringing people to Jesus.

It is ALL religion with Christians....in this case it is pure politics for Muslims.
