...what prompted me was Fry's condemnation of the "left" for refusing to condemn Islam....he felt they were shirking their values, being cowardly etc.

...People who refuse to condemn Islam and Muhammad, right now in the midst of a decades-long attack on Muslims and their children and families are not being cowardly, or ignoring their values....on the contrary. they are people who refuse to join in on the group-hate which has seized almost everyone in Christian nations.

...these people are upholding the value of Reason, of logic, of history and human behavior and psychology...they are people who know that if a woman stabs a man in the eyes, for no apparent reason they will STILL not say "she did it because she is a woman"...no, they will ask, "what did the man do to make her stab him in the eye"...and if we know that the man attacked the woman unjustly and illegally and tried to rape her, then we know enough to place the blame on the attacker and not on the one attacked.

That comment, that the Left has somehow let itself down by not joining in the blind condemnation of people we ATTACKED, to blame THEM for defending themselves or seeking revenge, is what disappointed me in Fry's comments.

Do Gay men have the right to defend themselves against those who seek to attack and rape them? Would he say it was their "Gayness" which caused them to defend themselves or just their common humanity and sense of security and outrage even.

But, I'm sure on reflection Fry would think better.
