..in a piece she posted by him he writes....

"There not being any universal bond to hold the people together, we found that language was the only means to stand between us and oblivion."

...exactly! But he was referring to our new language of Aramaic, now, today. This is what Georges Roux and everyone else who ever said the ancient Assyrians "disappeared" meant...they meant that when Assyria was conquered and later occupied by various other peoples, setting aside their ancient language of Akkadian/Assyrian for an admittedly better one, Aramaic, meant that they stood the risk of "sinking into oblivion", just as Maggie's father warns.

..the irony is that this had already happened, way before Mr Maggie was born even...that is, the Assyrians gave up their own language and worse, didn;t even bother to translate INTO their new Aramaic language, all that rich history and heritage, with the result that soon it was all forgotten and nothing but what was set down in Aramaic survived...until the 19th century when Euros dug up the Akkadian cuneiform and deciphered the ancient language in which the Assyrians had recorded themselves and kept themselves from "oblivion".

..that's all that is meant when we say the actual Assyrians disappeared...their conscious memory of who they had been disappeared, not their genetic material....I want to thank Maggie's father for confirming this.

He could have been an Assyrian parent, back 2500 years ago giving this same warning to his goofy daughter, Nin-Maggi, who was all ..."like, I LOVE the cool new Aramaic...who cares for that old cuneiform stuff".
