: By the way, Sadie, if you ever go on vacation or travel to visit your family in another country, whether or not you have already, I think you would be quite surprised with the perception others have of the US. I mention this because I consider it a norm to view things the way I do politically, albeit, not the case in the US. I was wondering whether you were aware as to how drastic the actual difference in view points regarding US foreign policy is in other countries. I know you know they view it differently, but it is downplayed in the US. In other countries, at least where I have gone, it is almost a fanatical opposition to the US. You would be quite surprised I think...I mentioned this only because it seemed to me you were a bit surprised as to how I view things politically. That's all:)

xxx Well, I know a bit about it, since my parents were immigrants here, & they tell me what is said in the news abroad & I read foreign papers. My exboyfriend, who is on scholarship in Europe this year, tells me a bit about it, too - how all US citizens abroad in Europe are given warning about possible attacks against them overseas via emails from the US embassies. It's definitely got to be more reactionary elsewhere. I remember when I went to visit him, we would sometimes be quiet when we went out so that no one would think we were Americans. & a few times I had conversations with locals abroad & we talked about US foreign policy. Basically, I agree politically with the anti-war European & Arab streets, so I don't really have a problem with their anger at the US gov't & its military. & if some angry people attack the US on its own turf, I think it's only to be expected, seeing how the US gov't is responsible for so much chaos & death elsewhere. That it's to be expected doesn't mean it's "good" or "right"... but I can see why such attacks would take place.
